There's a new club in town for young volleyball players in the Foothills.

Calgary-based Ace Volleyball Club has acquired Peak Volleyball Club and will be offering programs from the Crescent Point Regional Fieldhouse starting in August.

Ace Volleyball Club Founder David Wildman says they're launching non-competitive U-8 to U-12 programs for boys and girls this year, as well as a competitive program, with tryouts, for U-13 to U-16 female players.

"From there we're planning on growing to U-13 to U-18 boys and girls," Wildman explains. "So, this year, the U-13 to U-16 age groups are just females and hopefully in the long run we'll have U-13 to U-18 boys and girls and multiple teams at each age level."

He says Ace Volleyball Club has been looking at finding a home in the Foothills for a couple of years now. Wildman adds that the plan is to accommodate more volleyball players from the Foothills at a higher competitive level.

"We felt that there was definitely a need for a competitive club out there," he says. "And so we are basically restructuring the club that was out there under the Ace brand to give more kids the opportunity to play and to stay closer to home when they do play."

Ace Volleyball Club was founded in 2012 in Calgary and has expanded to include Fraser Valley divisions as well as the Foothills division.

Wildman says that Ace will be running clinics for Foothills players from August to November with try-outs beginning in late November. The club volleyball season runs from December to May.
