The Okotoks Fire Department dealt with an average week of calls in this edition of the Fire Report.

Fire Services responded to 15 calls last week including two different fires.

Okotoks Fire Chief Ken Thevenot

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says the last couple of weeks have almost quiet for the department.

"We had one fire response, one small grass fire, we had four vehicle accidents, responded to five medical calls, one odour investigation, one alarm system activation and we had two faulty alarm system detectors we responded to as well."

The Fire Department has already been busy this week outside of their day to day jobs as they prepare for Fire Prevention Week.

Thevenot says they'll be opening up the Fire Hall on Milligan Drive for the public on Saturday to show the community the tools they use everyday and give a couple of demonstrations.

"We're going to have a lot of items here, prevention material, we'll have our fire extinguisher prop here as well," he says. "We'll have a couple older vehicles that we're going to practice some extrication so what that means we'll be cutting apart some vehicle with our jaws of life and other extrication tools."

A formal presentation will be given by members of Okotoks Town Council at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Thevenot says they'll be encouraging everyone to sign up for the department's home inspection programs.

"People can come down and sign-up to have their home inspected for free and we hope to have some sign-ups on Saturday that we can follow up next week and provide home inspections to anybody that has any questions or want us to check their smoke detectors that sort of thing."

The theme of this year's Fire Prevention Week 'Don't Wait Check The Date' which involves switching out your home's smoke alarms.
