Many rural communities within the M.D. of Foothills are without a quick internet connection, but if Council gets their way, residents could see broadband sooner, rather then later.

M.D. of Foothills Division Four Councillor Suzanne Oel says she is still having plenty of conversations to get broadband out to Priddis and surrounding areas.

"We're participating in the connect to innovate, which is a federal grant." Oel adds "There is also some community investigations within the hamlet of Priddis Greens and Hawk's landing, and the whole North West area."

If the connect to innovate grant funding doesn't come in, Oel says they're still going to strive to find a way to deliver.

"There is kind of a big gap, we call it the missing link that doesn't even have the Super Net fiber running from Calgary out to the West Country, and then it picks up again on highway 22. So we're looking at a possible application or a future project that might tie together the municipalities in the area."

If council doesn't get the 'Connect to Innovate' grant, they will continue to apply for other government funding, or rely on partnerships with the other municipalities, like Rocky View County.

Oel says she's been working hard with the C.R.P (Calgary Regional Partnerships) the M.D. staff and community volunteers to see if they can leverage the eligible areas, like Priddis identified for backbone funding.
