If you happen to look upward these days, you've likely seen plenty of birds making their way North for the year.

The annual spring migration is upon us and local bird expert, Greg Wagner, says there's plenty of activity in the skies.

"We've got both Trumpeter and Tundra Swans moving through. Lot's of Canada Geese, we're even starting to see some Snow Geese. Most of the duck species are back. Big numbers of Pintails are being seen as well as Mallards and American Wigeon. So, Spring has sprung."

Wagner says it's not just ducks and geese moving through, but many smaller birds in around the Foothills are starting to pair off.

"The one that you really hear, it's a true sign of spring. The House Finches are singing all over the place. They're very busy you can hear them all over town."

Wagner says one surprise is he hasn't heard of any Robin sightings yet, but says once one rolls in, you'll see them in numbers shortly after.

Wagner says, as always, Frank Lake East of High River just off Highway 23, is your best bet to see what's coming through the area.
