Brettyn Rose is the very first winner of Okotoks Idol.

The local singer was one of 15 contestants participating in the new Big Rock Singers Fundraiser, Okotoks Idol, at the Royal Duke Saturday Sept. 30.

Rose says she competed in three rounds with the other singers, adding there was some stiff, but friendly competition.

"There's so much talent in this town, I got to share the stage with so many amazing musicians. Kerry Gruber, the director of the choir is so great, the choir has such dedicated people, they're so talented to it was such a sense of community, love and support that night."

Okotoks Idol contestants would sing their songs, then audience members were able to buy votes for the contestants of their choice, with all proceeds going back to Big Rock Singers.

Sam Smith, Percy Devin were the runners up for Okotoks Idol, Rose shares she's proud to have come in first.

"It's such an honour, I'm so proud to be from Okotoks everyone here is so great Okotoks is such a magical place, the arts are so cool here, everyone is so good I love it."
