The Boys and Girls Club of Black Diamond has received a massive grant from the charitable arm of the Toronto Blue Jays, the Jays Care Foundation.

The club has received $150,000 to help build a regulation sized ball diamond in the town, which will be called the Field of Dreams.

Shirley Puttock, Executive Director Boys and Girls Clubs of the Foothills, says the club is delighted with the recent announcement.

"Our whole mission is to get children and youth active and it seems there is more funding for that now, which is great because not all children have the opportunity to be in paid recreational sports, so they're not learning those skills. When I grew up we always played baseball. it's a great sport, we're just over the top thrilled about this."

Puttock explains the process of receiving the grant took about half a year to complete.

"We received information from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada that the Blue Jays Foundation was putting out a call for proposals for the Field of Dreams Grant in November. We put in our expression of interest, and then we made it to the second round, and were able to put in a proposal for January, and we just found out this week that we'd be receiving the grant."

She shares not only will the Boys and Girls Club be using the ball diamond, but it will be open to all children and youth in the community.

The total cost of the project is around $250,000, to help fund raise the last $100,000 the Boys and Girls Club in High River will be holding a Newfie Night May 27.
