Students and parents from St. Francis of Assisi school were going around town Saturday collecting bottles to go towards the $450 000 goal.

Fundraiser's like the bottle drive are put on by the Friends of Assisi Society. The society has a goal of reaching $125,000 by December and society chair Jennifer Zaffino says each fundraiser helps bring them closer to their goal, and every little bit helps.

She adds that she is thankful and proud of the group that came together.

"There was about 50 or 60 of us out collecting bottles."

Zaffino adds there is a family from the school that is going to match whatever is made from the bottle drive.

"With that, I am hoping we will bring in around five or six thousand dollars."

Along with the parents, there were plenty of kids helping out.

Brody is a grade four student at the school and Jared is in grade one, they both hope to have a playground as soon as possible.

"It will be fun to have a park at recess and lunch to play on."

The society's next fundraiser is a Social and Silent Auction at the Canadian Brewhouse on October 21st.
