The bold and colourful art work of Calgary and Edmonton based artist Jason Carter is on display this summer at the Okotoks Art Gallery.

Carter currently runs two galleries and does sculptural and mural work including a large scale mural at the Edmonton Airport and carvings of bears.

Allan Boss, culture and heritage manager for, says Carter's work is a great fit for the gallery.

"We approached Jason last year when we were thinking about a big summer exhibit, we like to have something that makes people feel good when they come into the gallery and enjoy it and really love the space and Jason's work is like that."

In the large gallery is a portion of the exhibit that was designed specifically for the gallery where the horizon from the work lines up to create the Alberta landscape.

Boss says Carter and his partner Bridget Ryan have also created work for children to enjoy.

"They've written three children's books based on an Aboriginal trickster character named Boo so they have this series of books called Who is Boo and you can come into the small gallery, there's a table in there and the three books are there, and all around the gallery there's images that tell the story so you can walk around and actually understand the narrative."

Signed copies of the books are available for purchase in the gallery's gift shop.

Carter's work will be on display at the Okotoks Art Gallery until Sept. 3.
