The Town of Black Diamond is looking back at a bylaw passed in the 1980s that indicated where residential housing should be, where the roads should be and what kind of services should be in the area.

According to mayor Sharlene Brown, the bylaw needs to be updated.

"A lot of things have changed since the 1980s, and our buildings have changed a lot since the 1980s," she says.

Brown says the town itself has changed from what it was when the bylaw was put into place.

"They didn't think that there were going to be condos there, they didn't think that there was going to be high density construction in that area or possibly multi-family homes."

The Town is holding an open house Monday at the town office to review the bylaw as part of the Kaiser Area Structure Plan.

Brown says a key area that the Town is looking at is directly behind Mountain View Condos.

"Across the street going south from Rona, that whole area is a blank field at this point of time, and in that case it is a blank slate."
