Yesterday was filled with extreme fun as the Okotoks BMX team celebrated 'BMX day in Alberta'.

The team invited anyone and everyone in the community out to the track to watch them perform and to even join in the fun.

President of Okotoks BMX Trudi Andres says to celebrate the day they had mock races for the club members.

"All our club members had mock races, there's younger kids all the way from six to our elite males who are very exciting to watch."

Other than mock races the event had a bouncy castle, food, pro riders Cam Helm and Jeff Jacobsen showing off their skills and equipment and bikes were passed out for beginners aged 4 to 104 to give the extreme sport a try.

Andres says the sport has a great family atmosphere, "It's a great sport, it's an individual sport that allows kids to push themselves to their limits and they set goals every year and they try to achieve them and you know what, it's a really great family atmosphere, a great community atmosphere down here and we just want all the riders 3 to 55 to succeed."

Next for the club is the upcoming qualifying races for any member in Zone 2 that wants to participate in the Alberta Summer Games.

That race will take place at the track this Wednesday.

The team practices on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. till 9 p.m. and have a race day every Wednesday for the public to watch.
