A new restaurant in Okotoks will be grilling up food year round.

Big Sky BBQ Pit will offer both dine-in and drive-thru options as well as catering for customers at their location on next to Cycle Works on Highway 2A at 306 Ave.

The restaurant will feature a timber frame lounge with 40 seats, a drive-thru pick-up window suitable for those pulling trailers, and a west facing covered patio with a lawn and picnic area.

Owner Rob Bolton says he has an extensive background in barbecuing.

"I've been barbecuing for probably eight years now, the idea for Big Sky BBQ Pit is that it's just always been a passion of mine. We've been competing the last couple of years competitively in the US and Canada and recently just got certified with the Kansas City Barbecue Society and it's been absolutely fantastic."

An app is being developed so customers can order their food ahead of time and grab it through the pick-up window or walk in.

He says he's looking forward to supporting Foothills producers through the restaurant.

"Once a month we're going to feature a different farmer and his ranch and we're going to try and supply and demand as much of their beef as we can locally here. We're working with a bunch of the farmers in the area so it's going to be amazing."

Big Sky BBQ Pit will also be carrying specialty sauces, injections, rubs, and smokers so customers can be king or queen of the grill at home.

Bolton says the restaurant is expected to be completed in mid-October.
