The Big Bike Ride for the Heart and Stroke Foundation cycled through Okotoks on Sunday.

This was the fifth year for the event in town where participants pledge their way to a seat on one of the giant bicycles.

Tamara Boivin, event organizer, says she's thrilled with the total from this year's ride.

"We did really great, even with the economy and everybody's really busy trying to get back into September's swing," she explains. "We raised $9,794."

About 46 participants cycled on the two giant bikes.

Boivin says she's thrilled the event returns to Okotoks each year and continues to be successful.

"I could only hope but never in a million years would I have thought we would've had these wonderful years and really great memories."

Over the past five years the event has raised over $54,000 locally.
