One local brewmaster is on his way to bringing the first micro-brewery to Okotoks.

Growing up on a farm near Longview, Luke Wooldridge has had the art of making beer in his blood.

Currently brewing in Saskatoon and having a few local pubs in Okotoks with his beer on tap, Wooldridge hopes his 6 Corners Brew Works can take the next step in the world of brewing those refreshing suds.

"The inspiration for the home project really stems way back to home brewing really," he says. "Growing up watching my dad do some home brewing and all the smells, sights and sounds associated with that brought back some fond memories and then I got into it to when I was old enough to actually appreciate the beer as well and just kept taking too far and eventually got trained as a brewmaster and made a career of it."

Wooldridge has started a business to get going on the building of a 10,000 sq/ft brewery beside Costco.

He says it's still in the early stages but hopes it will start to take shape at some point this year.

"From the get-go there will be a retail component there, you'll be able to come in and have a pint. We'll have some very basic food options to start with maybe just snacks. We're not really going to tackle the whole restaurant side of it."

When it comes to what type of beer Wooldridge prefers making, he says the sky's the limit.

"Primarily we'll focus on ales, we're going to have the versatility to able to do any style that we want. We're hoping because there's so much diversity out there in what you can accomplish with the different ingredients, the different yeasts there's so many styles and flavours that you can get out and that's part of what keeps it interesting."

Wooldridge is hoping that his brewery will be fully operational by next year.

You can find 6 Corners Brew Works beer at Rylies Cattle Barn, John Henry's pub along with the Econo and CO-OP liquor stores.
