A big weekend in Vulcan this weekend as the annual Vul-Con runs Saturday, July 22 and Sunday, July 23.

Star Trek, sci-fi and pop culture fans will double the town's population as they gather to share in all things "geek."

Vulcan Tourism Administrator Shannon Clarke says people come to the convention from all over the Foothills, and the world.

"Edmonton, New York, Montana, we have a couple that come from there every year. Los Angeles, just everywhere."

"Set your phasers to "fun!" Edmonton's Tyler Prazak will be among the thousands in Vulcan this weekend to celebrate all things "Star Trek."

Clarke says if you're looking for some cool stuff, Vulcan is the place to be.

"There's a little bit of everything there, that's for sure. We've got people that do leather bound book covers, we've got collectibles, we've got comic books. If you're looking for it, I think you can find it there."

The festivities get going Saturday morning at 9:15 with the costume contest and parade starting at the "Trek Station."

Then it shifts to the Vulcan Arena and the Culture and Recreation Centre with the Vendors room, Photo Ops and panel discussions.

This year's theme is very much one of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, with all the guests from that show, including Executive Producer Ira Steven Behr who'll be talking about his new documentary project he's producing with Adam Nimoy, called "What We Left Behind" which includes cast interviews and what an imagined season eight of the show would have looked like.

Other's include, Cirroc Lofton, who was "Jake Cisco" on DS9.

Hana Hatae, who was "Molly O'Brien."

Robert O'Reilly, who was Klingon Chancellor "Gowron" on both Star Trek: The Next Generation and DS9.

And Mark Okrand, who created both the "Klingon" and "Romulan" languages.
