A Bassano woman is voicing her frustrations with the legal system regarding the Eduord Maurice case.

Maurice is facing charges of aggravated assault, pointing a firearm and careless use of a firearm from an incident involving a couple of would be thieves on his property near Okotoks back in February.

Maurice's case has been held over in two week increments over 3 times as the court awaits presentation of a ballistics report.

Bassano resident Zena Branson is speaking out about how she feels rural crime affects residents in the Foothills and surrounding areas.

"I think it's high time that the theives when they're arrested, if they are arrested, are the ones that should have to start paying, not the victim. Our system, as everybody's putting it, is severely broken and something has to change." Branson said.

After having $300,000 worth of equipment stolen from her property in the Bassano area, Branson has become an advocate for change in the justice system.

Branson arrived at the courthouse on Friday with a banner petition signed by over 150 people from all over the world, showing support for Maurice.

Maurice will be back in Okotoks Provincial Court on June 22.
