Foothills MP John Barlow & Conservative Party leader hopeful Andrew Sheer made a stop in the Foothills Friday.

Barlow has thrown his endorsement towards the Regina-Qu’Appelle MP for the federal tories.

Andrew Scheer

Scheer says he hopes if he wins the leadership and the eventual 2019 election to erase history from repeating itself.

"I'm motivated by a strong desire to make sure that Justin Trudeau is not allowed to do to my kids what Pierre Trudeau did to my generation," he says. "He racked up massive amounts of debt that I've had to payback my whole working career, that my parents are still paying back and now we see this Trudeau government doing the exact same thing."

With the talk about the current economy still grim for many, Scheer says best thing the next government can do is eliminate addition taxes like the carbon or payroll taxes to help Canadians get back to work.

"The first thing you have to stop doing is making hard for people to invest and create those jobs in the first place. It's hard enough when commodity prices go down, when you add on additional taxation everytime you impose one of those new costs on business people get laid off it's not rocket science."

Scheer says when speaking on conservatisim across the country, the party needs to create a new approach when united both the west and east side of the country.

"What I hope to do federally is make that connection to the day to day lives of Canadians so we're not balancing the budget for the sake of balancing the budget we're balancing the budget so that we don't have to borrow from banks and pay them interest and charge you more taxes and we can put that money back into services."
