With a Federal election all set for October 19th, MPs like the MacLeod Riding's John Barlow will be spending the summer not just working on constituency issues, but actively campaigning.

Barlow says he won't be spending a lot of time this summer working on his tan or his golf swing.

"I know a lot of people thinks it's summer holiday, but that certainly not the case," he says. "It's almost busier when we're home than when we're in Ottawa. We're trying to get to as many events as we can. Meet with Councils and community groups. Which we don't have a chance to do when we're in session. So, we're looking forward to that and we've got a pretty full schedule, but it's always nice to be home in Alberta."

With the vote coming October 19th, and no one expecting Parliament to sit again until after the election, Barlow says it's "go time."

"It's pretty clear that everybody's in election mode now. That's the way we're looking at it. We're doing our regular day to day duties as well, but this really is, you can see it on a national scale, the 2015 election is already begun."

Despite an upswing in polling numbers for the Federal NDP and a surprisingly large vote count for the NDP in rural ridings in this Springs' Provincial Election, Barlow says he's not too worried about losing his seat, although he's quick to point out he's not taking anything for granted and will be working hard on his re-election campaign.
