PC blue has once again been chosen as the colour for the Foothills riding.

Conservative MP John Barlow claimed a significant amount of the voter turnout in the Foothills at about 76%, with the Liberal's Tanya MacPherson trailing at about 13%, and the NDP's Alison Thompson bringing up the rear at 6%.

Barlow says he's thrilled to have held onto his seat and be able to continue to represent the Foothills at a federal level.

He says despite the PC's role in government changing to the official opposition, his priorities are staying the same.

"The people of Foothills are my top priority and that's always the case," he says. "Obviously the job becomes a little bit different in terms of trying to get things done, it's going to be a different perspective that way, but it doesn't change how I do my job. My job is to be here as often as I can and be as accessible as I possibly can and work for what's the priorities of the Foothills."

While Barlow says he's disappointed with the outcome nationally of the new Liberal government, he says he'll try his best to advocate for people's best interests.

"Now we have to focus ourselves on being a strong opposition, still be a voice, especially for me here in the Foothills but for other Canadians, that we want taxes low and we have to be concerned that if this is a Liberal majority, we are going to see taxes on Canadians go up significantly. They are not going to be as concerned with our trade agreements, their policy on our crime and safe communities is much different."

Barlow says as the official opposition for the country, the Conservatives will have to make sure they hold the Liberals accountable.
