Pedestrian safety will increase near Good Shepherd School.

Following last week's town council meeting a jersey barrier, warning signage and a stop sign will be installed at the lane behind Banister Drive.

Okotoks Mayor Bill Robertson says that patch of roadway can be dangerous for not just those on foot... but also drivers.

"It's a blind corner for a vehicles pulling out across the sidewalk, they need to pull out across the sidewalk and then cross a small boulevard to get the roadway before entering the actual Banister roadway."

Robertson says the changes to the road were well overdue.

"People that are walking along need to be wary of vehicles of pulling out, the vehicles need to be very wary of pedestrians."

Thus why the change will be made in the new few weeks.

Robertson says adding the barrier and sign is just another way of keeping everybody safe whether off to school or just out and about.

"Without doing anything it's an accident waiting to happen," he says. "Council was very concerned overall of the safety of that, as we are at any intersection, we need to provide pedestrian movement as safely as possible."
