March 31st is World Back Up Day and losing computer files, pictures and important documents is quite common.

Jolee Electronics Director John Coleman says the effects of not backing up important files can be catastrophic.

"Stats prove that if a business has a fire that destroys their building and they lose their information 70% of them will be out of business in five years. A business that loses their information for more than ten days has a 93% chance that they will be out of business within a year."

He says with all of the online services and technology available today businesses don't have to be a statistic.

He says there are a few key things to consider.

"At home to me what's most important is my contacts, my pictures and my financials. As for businesses the most important things are financials, customer relationship information and general documents."

He says he's seen customers come into his store that have lost wedding photos of their children because they didn't back up their computer.

Coleman says many people are in the dark when it comes to backing up their computers and personal devices.

"A lot of people in businesses don't realize that even if they're running QuickBooks or one of the smaller accounting packages it's stored in the Public Folder. If they just run a standard back up it doesn't back up the Public Folder so they haven't got their financials."

He says approximately 30% percent of people have never  backed up their computers.
