The Town of Okotoks is the recipient of a 2017 Communities ChooseWell Award from the Alberta Recreation and Parks Association.

Janette Messer, Town of Okotoks community programs and events manager, says the award highlights the Town's strategies to promote healthy eating and active living.

"This year, the Town of Okotoks, with all of the work that it does on an annual basis supporting healthy eating and active living, submitted their work and we were chosen as a recipient for the Developing Healthy Policies award," Messer says.

She says the award was based on the Town's active transportation strategy and neighborhood connector program, as well as agreements with its vendors limiting unhealthy food choices.

"It awards the Town of Okotoks for the intiatives that are being implemented and certainly recognizes the Town for all of the good things that it is doing within the community for residents," Messer says.

The 2017 Communities Choosewell Award for developing healthy policies was presented to the Town of Okotoks in October.
