An event featuring local artists and live entertainment is back for another year.

This year, Art on the Lawn is taking place on Saturdays instead of Thursday evenings outside of the Okotoks Art Gallery.

Allan Boss, Culture and Heritage Manager for the Town of Okotoks, says uncooperative weather during the evenings was one reason for the switch.

"Not a lot of artists would show up if it started to rain and not a lot of people would come out of their house if it was threatening outside, so the weather wasn't really cooperating with us very well so we thought 'well let's just do a weekend and see how that works', so we're trying something new and I think it's going to be really successful."

Boss says the first Art on the Lawn this weekend aligns with a pair of local artist's exhibit openings.

"Paul Rasporich and Ryan Smitham. Paul is a teacher for the Foothills Comp art program and Ryan used to be a teacher there and both of their exhibit openings are on Saturday, so not only will we have a bunch of people on the front lawn with all sorts of wears, the artists are going to be on site and we'll be having an opening for their two exhibits."

Those interested in becoming a vendor for Art on the Lawn first need to become a member of the OAG. For more information click here.

The first Art on the Lawn of the season takes place June 9 from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m.
