The Wildrose Party is having a hard time getting freedom of information requests through Service Alberta, and Highwood MLA Wayne Anderson says changes need to happen.

He says it's likely staffers in the department, used to how things used to be under the PC regime, are holding tight to those ways.

He says they've even gone so far as to state sections of the FOIP Act, which he says don't exist, to justify denying access to document requests.

"The curious thing is though they quoted a statement 'sitting in the legislative assembly or one of it's committee's for a period of five years.' Well that wording is actually not in the legislation, so are they making things up? We're not sure. So I've asked the Information and Privacy Commissioner to look into this and say hey, you know, this wording is not part of the legislation, why are we being denied information based on something that we think they might have made up?"

Anderson says he's hoping to work with the new NDP Government to change the culture in the department so it becomes more transparent.
