Students across Alberta have been casting their own ballots during this election season.

Student Vote Alberta is a program that provides students with firsthand experience of researching candidates and casting ballots.

Brooklyn Bennett, grade 6 student at Good Shepherd, says the process will help students prepare to cast a ballot when they're old enough.

"The kids in grade 6 come down and learn how to do the process so when they turn 19 and are the legal age to vote, that they have motivation to, so we have more people doing it."

She says precautions are taken to make sure students aren't influenced by outside forces.

"You can't just listen to your parents votes, because you might have different decisions. The teachers made it so we didn't know, so we wouldn't just pick the ones our parents are voting for."

The results of Student Vote Alberta 2019 will be released after the Provincial Election is concluded.
