Alberta Health Services is recommending we take extra precautions when venturing outdoors following a Heat Advisory for the Calgary Zone.

Temperatures are forecasted to hover around the 30s for the next few days which can pose as a serious health risk for children, seniors, individuals with pre-existing respiratory or cardiovascular conditions, and outdoor workers.

Dr. Brent Friesen, Medical Officer of Health with AHS, says people should take certain precautions with the extreme heat.

"If it's possible to reschedule activities to cooler times of the day you should consider doing so," he says, "making sure if you are outside make sure your drinking plenty of water to keep hydrated, wearing light coloured clothing and a hat and of course using sunscreen."

Friesen says if you have a certain health condition you should try to remain cool indoors.

"People with existing heart, breathing problems, and some people taking certain types of medications are more susceptible to the heat because they don't have the same ability in terms of being able to cool off and some of the medications directly affect the ability of the  body to sweat and cool down."

The heat advisory is expected to remain in effect until 3 p.m. on Sunday.
