A new mobile fire ban app has been released by the Government of Alberta just in time for the outdoor season.

The app, which is available for both Android and Apple devices, is intended to give people more access to information on fire bans, restrictions and advisories while they plan their holidays and activities in the spring and summer months.

Knowing the status of fire bans, wildfires and any restrictions will help with safe planning of outings whether they are in your backyard or in parks and natural areas.

Since March 1st, there have been 274 wildfires in Alberta's Forest Protection areas, and of those fires, 99 per cent were human-caused and entirely preventable according to the Alberta Government.

Springtime can bring wildfires caused by dry grass and leaves and as of May 15th, there were 88 fire bans and advisories across the province. The Alberta Government advises it is wise to check for fire bans while planning to enjoy the outdoors.
