AgSafe Alberta is celebrating Canadian Farm Safety Week by looking to help farmers and ranchers be more aware of the dangers they face every day.

AgSafe's Farm and Ranch Safety Extension Coordinator, Donna Trottier, says sometimes hazards are so common, producers lose sight of them.

"It's not negligence so much as just becoming a little too comfortable with the hazards that are on the farm. So going around and identifying those hazards and coming up with a plan for controlling those hazards is key."

She suggests coming up with farm safety plan that helps to recognize and minimize those risks.

The Alberta Canola Producers Commission is also on board and in a release says:

Canadian Agricultural Safety Week (CASW) is an annual public awareness campaign focusing on the importance of farm safety.

Under the three-year theme of “Be an AgSafe Family,”  this year organizers want to empower farm families with the information they need to help keep everyone safe on the farm while preserving the farming lifestyle.

It’s important for the farm owners and managers to lead the way to establishing a culture of safety on their farms.

Although the campaign lasts for only a week, farm safety is important all year around.

AgSafe Alberta has formed to support Alberta farmers and ranchers as they work towards enhancing safety initiatives on their farms.
