A meeting Wednesday between the Alberta government and the AgCoalition, representing close to 30 different groups has resulted in an agreement to work together on farm safety.

Kent Erickson, the co-chair of the AgCoalition says, for starters, they were happy with the government's acknowledgement of their efforts to bring a single voice on the new farm worker protection act.

"The recognition of all the work we've done with the AgCoalition in bringing together an unprecedented amount of livestock, grain, specialty crops, a vast majority of people in the ag sector together to a unified voice, speaking the same language, speaking the same thing, was really something that was acknowledged by government," he says.

He says having just one voice talking to the government will provide a clear, concise and professional message.

"Looking back at the whole process there's a number of things that I think everybody can says that they wish they did a little bit differently and we just want to try to build some trust with the government and through their process and if we can do that with their process, that's kind of the first steps that we were talking about," he says.

Erickson says they'll be working with the government to come up with ways to staff working groups that will provide feedback on Bill 6.

Representatives from the various farm groups will get together in central Alberta next week to come up with a recommendation for a path to move forward.
