A lot of local voters took advantage of the advance polls held last weekend.

According to Elections Canada, 12,712 people cast their ballots in the new Foothills riding over the course of four days.

In the new Bow River riding, 8,074 votes were cast.

A comparison to the previous election is hard to make since the riding boundaries have changed and there was a by-election in the Macleod riding in June 2014.

Across Canada 3.6 million votes were cast, up from 2.1 million in 2011.

The rest of voters go to the polls on election day on Mon. Oct. 19.
