The High River Academy of Learning is joining the throngs of people willing to donate to the cause in Fort McMurray.

Only this time it's school supplies, and Suzanne Rieger Admissions Representative says they've joined forces with another charity.

"We have aligned with Stevens Backpack Society which works in close association with the Ministry of Education and they do back packs for underprivileged kids or children in need and they are allowing us to accept school donations on their behalf of school supplies."

She says they will be accepting donations of school supplies over the next few weeks.

She says people are stepping up for the kids.

"We actually had some donations from students and we've had a few people drop off a few donations in the form of school supplies and we hope that people will continue to pitch in and help with that."

She says Stevens Back Packs all started with a young boy sho saw a need and tried to fill it.

"Stevens Back Packs was actually started by a young man and his name was Steven, he's from the city of Airdrie. He just saw that there was a need and he just decided to start it own his own and it's developed into a huge organization that supplies school supplies to children that are underprivileged."

She says they have received permission to collect school supplies and will then turn them over to Stevens Back Packs for distribution.

She says Donations can be dropped off at Academy of Learning Bay 4, 28-12 Avenue S.E. in High River Monday to Thursday 8am-8pm, Tuesday and Wednesdays 8am-4pm and Fridays 8am-3pm.
