Members of the Abbeyfield House Society went before High River Town Council Monday afternoon.

Scott Forbes told council they were there with good news, and not to ask for money.

"Were at the stage now where we're full with ten residents, we've got the message out there, rather than plead for giving us money but we'll get to that stage, but right now it's good news and it's time to say thank you," Forbes says.

He says there were plans at one time in the future to have a second house on the plot of land at the bottom of the water tower, but that's in the flood plain so it's not in the cards now. Forbes added it took 11 years of fundraising to get the first home built so any future plans are a ways off.

Bob Delannoy says the flood in 2013 affected the building to the tune of about $1.2 million with insurance helping put it back together. Groups like the Red Cross stepped up with about $30,000 to help with things like landscaping.

He says the still have money left over which should carry them to the end of 2017 and they could be back before council at that time.

The home originally opened in 2008 and there are three residents still living there from that time.
