The Okotoks Fire Department responded to a call a bit different than usual on Tuesday morning.

Deputy Fire Chief Pat Macisaac says the department responded to a call of a suspected lightning strike at the McDonald's restaurant on Southbank Blvd.

Macisaac says the restaurants staff say they think the lightning was too close for comfort.

"At about 8 o'clock the staff at the restaurant indicated that they saw and heard lightning very close to the building and immediately after it activated their alarm system."

He says there were no injuries from the strike and there appears to be no damage to the building.

"We made sure that we very thoroughly checked the building because lightning can leave some signs. It travels different ways through buildings, so we have to make sure we do a real thorough check with our thermal imaging cameras and make sure there's no incident that we're missing."

Macisaac says the only side effect from the lightning strike was the alarms at the restaurant being set off.
