With the recent rain fall in the Foothills region, farmers are grateful for what looks to be a good yield of crops this season.

However, expert agronomists say we'll still need another few weeks of moisture before we're out of the woods.

Local Agronomists and Owners of Premium Ag, Andrew Clements and Matt Gosling say things started off really well.

"Things have started to dry out, in the regions East of Okotoks towards the Strathmore area, things are getting quite dry and worrying for farmers."

Clements and Gosling says that we have a magical period of Stampede every year, where much needed moisture finds it way to the Foothills.

"We've got sufficient moisture here to take us into the second week of July, but it's not sufficient enough to take us to the end of the season yet. So we need those magic rains of Stampede to take us the rest of the way."

The Pair warn that perhaps the biggest threat to farmers isn't a lack of moisture, but an influx of disease.

"With these conditions being very moist and very warm, the potential for disease is about as perfect as can be. Anything under 20 degrees at night allows the fungi to breed rapidly and cause further disease."

Despite weather woes, Ag experts believe that this years yield will exceed last years and rival 2013 crop production.
