Serbian Fest got underway yesterday at the Serbian Orthodox Church, a good time to be had by all.

Father Obrad Filipovic says the Serbs are a traditional bunch, so the church was the perfect location.

"Serbs are a very traditional people, which is great because our church is an old traditional Serbian church, so I think it just fits really well together."

Serbian Fest has been going on for 7 years, and every year it features something new and continues to grow in popularity.

"This is our 7th annual Serbian Fest, and it's filled with all kinds of different programs, probably the biggest program is the folk dancing." Father Filipovic says it's even gone intercontinental "We have a number of Serbian groups from Calgary, Edmonton and even Las Vegas down in the states."

Another favourite event is the soccer tournament, which Father Filipovic says was bigger and better this time around.

"So we have a beautiful soccer tournament this year with 16 teams. It's the biggest soccer tournament we have had and it's under the Alberta Soccer association management. We also have all kinds of fun for the kids here like the bouncy castle, face painting and stuff like that."

Father Filipovic shares that playing and watching soccer, is his personal favourite part of the weekend.
