We've all heard of Mommy and Me groups but what about the Dad's Central club?

Wildrose Community Connections along with the Okotoks Family and Community Support Services are teaming up to create a club for children and their father figures.

Family Support Worker with Wildrose Community Connections Taylor Norum says after the Foothills Wellness Network decided their 2016 focus would be on fathers the agencies came together to kick off the new club.

"It's called Dad's Central which is an opportunity for dads and their kids to come together and engage in fun activities and really try and promote that father-child bond. The cool thing is that this is open to step dads, uncles, grandparents, we are kind of saying any male role model that is in a child's life we want to try and enhance that relationship."

Norum says the club will be home to a lot of fun actives for all ages.

"So first of all there is food, there is always food and then honestly it's something different every time. Tonight for example we are doing a scavenger hunt and some nights we will do super hero nights or if its nice weather we will do water stuff, so it will be different . We also are doing Bouncy fun days...So we are hosting three events where there will be bouncy castles, slides, food and everything like that."

Having a father figure or male role model can drastically impact a child's life Norum says, "what we are finding is having that male role model for a child is significantly important in their development. They're more likely to do well in school, they're less likely to get involved in drugs and alcohol and they're more likely to have friends and to have positive relationships in general."

The first Dad's Central club was filled with fun activities and took place May 17th and will be the first of many in the Okotoks and High River area.

The club is free to attend for any age and for more information visit Okotoks.ca.
