As Okotoks continues to grow, that means the volume of calls will go up for the Okotoks Fire Department and that was no different for the calendar year of 2015.

Into the last week of 2015 Okotoks Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says the department responded to a higher than average week of calls.

"We ended up with 24 calls in the last week," he says. "At the end of the year of 2015 we had a total of 1069 responses."

Thevenot says the number of calls did increase from a year prior but it was a small gradual climb.

"Last year we ended up the end of 2014 with 1011 calls so we were up 58 calls from last year, the increase is just from growth and being busy throughout the community and more activity through out our community."

Thevenot says looking back in the fire department's records with the increase in calls over the past few years, he hasn't seen a large jump in certain types of calls, just more of them due to population growth.

"The calls percentage wise have been fairly consistent over the last number of years, if you go back to 2011 or 2012 we were at the 890 call volumes so we're up about 179 calls from 2011 to 2015."
