The 15th annual Diversity Track Meet was another success for all athletes and volunteers at Foothills Composite High School Thursday afternoon.

Athletes from around the Foothills and surrounding area where mentally and physically disabled student-athletes from across the Foothills participate in a fun-first track meet.

Volunteer for the track meet since she was in High School, Savannah Magnussen-Afonso says she's still honoured to be a part of the event to this day.

"It's great to come back all the time and see some of the same faces and see everyone having fun, having smiles on their faces and a sense of accomplishment for the students who planned it and for the athletes who participate in it," he says.

She says with more and more citizens taking time out of their day to help a cause like the track meet it brings a smile to not just the athlete's faces but also hers.

"It means a lot to me just to see it continue and just for the community support to such an event and probably for a lot of these students it's their first experience with volunteering or just being involved so that's good in fostering that sense of community."

Magnussen-Afonso says she hopes more student volunteers will come back after their school careers to continue helping out and encouraging even more community involvement.

"I just take home just the sense of it warming my heart to see everyone having a good time and supporting kids who probably need the most support."
