White crosses adorned with flags and poppies can be seen in several locations around town.

This Remembrance Day marks the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

Numerous ceremonies and services are being held across town, including one at the Pason Centennial Arena.

Many of these ceremonies will feature the Bells of Peace, echoing the bells which rang across Canada to mark the end of the war in 1918.

Bob Mcleod, Canadian Veteran and President of the Okotoks Legion says Okotoks is always particularly reverant during this period of remembrance.

"About 3000 folk attend the ceremony at Pason Centennial arena and each year it's stayed at least at that size. We also send representatives to each of the Okotoks schools for the ceremonies that they organize. It's really gratifying to see these ceremonies organized for the most part by students, and how much they put into it and how welcome we are."

He added that veterans and those currently serving are always made to feel welcome across town.

"Throughout Okotoks when you wear a uniform whether it's at the gas station or at the store, you're so often greeted by people thanking your service and being friendly. Okotoks is very much like the small town I grew up in in the Maritimes. They say Maritimers always have time to talk, and I think in Okotoks the same thing applies."

Approximately 120 people from Okotoks and the surrounding area enlisted in the First World War.
