Okotoks Dayton Sutherland is looking for a big year on the WPCA Tour in 2018.

He was named the Rookie Driver of the Year in 2017, but finished 35th overall.

He says he'd like to get into the top 20 this season in the WPCA Driver Standings which will earn him a shot at being able to drive at the Calgary Stampede in 2019.

"That's the ultimate goal and I think you kind of have to put yourself high enough in the standings for Calgary to look at you and then once they look at you, obviously they make their decisions on who they'd like to invite. As long as I do well enough for myself, then I think I should have a shot at making the 2019 Stampede."

Sutherland will be at the Stampede this year at any rate, as he'll be outriding for his Dad Mark, Great Uncle Kirk and cousin Mitch as well as a few others.

Sutherland and the rest of the WPCA drivers kick off the season starting Wednesday, May 30, at the Grande Prairie Stompede.
