The Western Major Baseball League is changing.

Starting next season, the League will be known as the Western Canadian Baseball League, or WCBL.

Okotoks Dawgs Managing Director John Ircandia says the change makes sense.

"There's only one Major League Baseball, so it was kind of in American terms, where there's such a proliferation of baseball leagues, it was a bit confusing as to who exactly we were. Now, branding us as Canada's summer collegiate league, I think better serves our purposes and describes who we are."

They'll also return to a yearly All-Star game, which will be in Edmonton the next couple of years starting in 2019.

Ircandia says Edmonton will do a great job.

"I think the Edmonton market, being a million-plus people, and with all the media resources they have up there. I think it's a great way to kick-start both the All-Star game and Edmonton's franchise by drawing such attention to it, by showcasing the elite players in the league."

Ircandia says expect the All-Star game to come back to Okotoks and some point in the future.
