Okotoks Mark Sutherland is hoping to hang on as he is in first place in the aggregate standings in the final WPCA race of the season today.

After three runs Sutherland has a combined total time of 3:49.67 and that is enough to move him into the top spot at the Battle of the Rockies in Rocky Mountain House.

He has some tough competition though as he has a very slim lead of 85 one-hundredths of a second lead over Gary Gorst, who has now moved up into second place overall.

Logan Gorst is third, while John Walters is in fourth, with Rick Fraser's number two wagon in fifth place overall.

Sutherland credits his horses Sky, Digger, Dodge and Ice with his performance last night.

In his daily Facebook video update, Sutherland says Dodge was hard to stop in the barrels and when the horn went Sky started so hard all four feet went off the ground, probably the best trip he took all year.

Sutherland however got nosed at the finish line finishing 7th on the night.

The driver posting the best 4-day aggregate time will take home the 2017 Battle of the Rockies Championship.

Also in the aggregate standings are High River's Jason Glass who is sitting in 9th, Jordie Fike in 16th and Dayton Sutherland is in 27th.

Kurt Bensmiller is in search of his second World Chuckwagon Championship, and is close to capturing the year end prize which will also be awarded today.
