Most chuckwagon drivers in these parts will be anxious to get out and start training for the upcoming season in the next few days.

Okotoks driver Mark Sutherland says with so much snow on the ground, they'll have to be patient.

"It's going to be a difficult Spring for a lot of guys, and I would expect it's going to be difficult for me for a week or two. But, we don't need to win a race April 1. We don't start racing until the end of May and we don't need to run them in April. we just need to get the horses moving a little bit. And get them out of their relaxation mode, which they've been in for six months."

Sutherland says they don't usually start training until the beginning of April anyway, so he says if they get "bumped a day or two" that's no big problem.

The Chucks get rolling for the first race of the season, Wednesday, May 30 in Grande Prairie.
