The Okotoks Oilers will be leaning on their defence this year, at least for the first part of the season.

Coach Tyler Deis says with a young group of forwards that'll be learning the ropes, holding the fort will be up to his blue-liners.

"They're definitely the strongest part of our team. Our defence we feel matches up with any defence in the AJHL. I think they're one of the top defensive corps, if not the best."

Deis also feels they have a great veteran goaltender in Riley Morris who will be a big piece of the puzzle in the early part of the season while the boys up front look to find their feet.

The Oilers get their training camp going this weekend and play their first pre-season game Tuesday, August 29, in Brooks against the Bandits.
