A successful weekend for the Highwood Mustangs boys rugby team as they they hosted the 3-A Rugby Provincials.

While the Mustangs only won one game in the b side of the tournament coach Dave Roberts says he was happy with their performance.

"We played really well," said Roberts. "We stuck to the game we know. We ran our forward attack really good, our back line also strung the ball out a few times. The teams that we did play were quite big, hard running boys."

He added even in the two games they lost he thought the team did really well and he was proud of them.

The game of the tournament was the bronze medal match with rivals Banff High School and Strathcona-Tweeedsmuir,

Earlier Banff won the zone finals so this was a bit of a grunge match.

"Both very excting rugby teams, both play very good rugby. A greeat game to watch hard hitting, dast running in the end STS was able to get the bronze."

The gold medal match was West Island College out of Calgary and Edmonton Christian School.

'West Island in our league and they also won the City championships this year. For me they were the team to beat this year and they certinaly proved that they had what it took to take the gold."

Several players on the Mustangs are about to graduate, Roberts hopes they play at the secondary level. He has coached several of them since Grade 9.

" I'll be sad to see them go."
