This weekend the Pason Centennial Arena is filled with aspiring gymnasts competing at the 17th Annual Mountain Magic Invitational, hosted by the Mountain Shadows Gymnastics Club, which began yesterday May 4.

Gymnasts from all over Alberta, and even B.C. will compete in floor, bars, vault, and beam for the top spot.

Leanne Garrett, Parent Volunteer, says a ton of athletes will be testing their skills this weekend.

"There's over 550 athletes of all ages and levels, from Junior Olympic 1 all the way up to Junior Olympic 10, there's Aspire 1 and 2, and there's team competitions as well."

Competitions are always good experience for gymnasts, but Garrett says there's lot on the line for these athletes.

"Each session is a level, there's awards given out after every session. After that it's just part of their regular competition year, they all have to compete in certain levels upwards of 10 competitions, they can make it up to Provincials and even Westerns."

She adds the entire weekend is ran by volunteers as the Mountain Shadows Gymnastics Club is a not for profit.

The Invitational will run until Sunday, May 7.
