The Midget AA Provincial Tournament is getting underway here in Okotoks today.

Our AA Midget Oilers have been out in the community to raise awareness and community spirit for the weekend.

Okotoks Junior High School Teacher Lee Kennedy says they spent a whole afternoon at the Junior High, getting the students involved.

"So we've got teams in grades 7,8, and 9 participating in a floor hockey tournament, 16 teams all together."  Kennedy says "We've asked the players from the AA Midget Black Oilers Team to come be our referees, some of them are super excited to be here because they went to school here, so it's a little alumni gathering."

Throughout the past week, the young athletes have been seen out on the Town.

Kennedy says They've been enjoying helping out.

"They've visited four different elementary schools in town, and done readings with the young students and gave them all foam pucks, and they're just trying to raise awareness, It's all part of the 'True Spirit of Hockey Initiative' put on by Hockey Alberta."

Residents are invited to come out and cheer on the home team over the weekend.

The Midget AA Oilers first game starts today at 4:30 PM against the CBHA Rangers, at the Pason Centennial Arena.
