High River long drive champ Dan "Smackintosh" McIntosh is gearing up for another run at a title on the World Long Drive Tour starting next week.

McIntosh says they get things going Monday, April 23, with a list of 32 competitors and start whittling it down from there.

"You do five sets against each person once basically. Then those top 16 go for another seeding round to find the top eight. So, a lot of hitting is going to be 10 sets against some of the best hitters in the world with only the top eight getting on TV."

The players are competing for $50,000 U.S. in prize money with the winner getting $20,000.

McIntosh spent most of the winter in China touring and training, but says he lost a little weight and some of his club head speed, which is why he's coming in ranked 24th in the world, after being as high as 13 last year.

He says since returning he's added back a few pounds and his club head speed is starting to pick up.

The TV round at the "Clash in the Canyon" in Mesquite, Nevada, goes Tuesday, April 24 starting at 5 p.m.(MDT) , on the Golf Channel.

McIntosh is coming off a career year, making two cuts to finish in the top eight and make it to the TV rounds, although he didn't advance past the first match in either TV round.
