With the WPCA season coming up, driver's are starting to reflect on the 50 year long career of "The King" Kelly Sutherland, who will retire at season's end.

High River's Jason Glass says he has nothing but respect for the elder Sutherland.

"I can't even describe how much work and energy he's put into this sport. He's been one of the hardest working men involved in wagon racing for over 50 years."

Glass says perhaps the CBC should hire Kelly once he's done and put him into the broadcast booth next to Jason's Dad Tommy Glass during their Rangeland Derby coverage at the Calgary Stampede.

"You know between the two of them they've got as much wisdom as far as thoroughbred horses go, and the sport of wagon racing, that I think it would be great."

Glass says the sport owes a lot to Sutherland who brought it out of obscurity into a big money operation over his 50 years of racing.

He says while "The King" may retire, you'll likely still see him around the track for years to come.
