Two cowboys who have spent their high school rodeo career competing against and as team members had a remarkable ending at the Canadian High School Final Rodeo in Nanton on the weekend.

Locklan Christianson and Stran Schlosser team rope together and have spent the rest of their time on the high school circuit competing in the other events.

So it seems fitting they ended up tied for first place in the boys cutting on the national stage but heartbreak was about to result as a tie was to be decided by a coin toss.

One local sponsor didn't want to see the results decided that way so they spoke up and promised a second buckle and they both went home with the honour.

The young men say their partnership has helped them to be better in their chosen sport.

"If one of us did good, we both did good, so it defiantly helped out," said Christianson.

Schlosser added you wanted the other to do well.

"But at the same time you are hoping you can do as good or better, so just to push each other the way we have I don't think it could have been any better for us skill wise."

They both had a good three days cutting cows and Schlosser earned second place in the tie-down roping.

As graduates they are now looking to take the next step forward with Schlosser going to a University where he will be part of the rodeo team and Christianson taking a year off to see how he does at a higher pro level in Canada.

They will still team rope together when they have a chance.

"We will get into a tougher competition pool and start roping with kids older then us now," said Christianson.

Schlosser, who also finished second in the tie down roping, adds they can now work getting even better.
