High River chuckwagon driver Jordie Fike is hoping for another big night this Friday, April 6, in Grande Prairie for the Stompede tarp auction.

Fike pulled in $80,000 at the Calgary Stampede canvas auction a couple of weeks ago, and hopes that trend carries through to this week.

"You know the way things looked in Calgary, maybe things are picking up a little bit. I know last year when we raced in Grande Prairie, it was a huge difference from the year before when we were there. It was a ghost town a couple of years ago, but trucks were moving and it was a happening place again in 2017."

The chuck drivers will line up for another auction in Ponoka early next month, but in a change this season, the rest of the WPCA races, including High River's Guy Weadick Days, won't be going to auction.

Instead allowing drivers to rustle up their own sponsorship deals for each one.
